My first ash cloud that I had experienced gave me an insight to query is this Judgement? This is how I can describe it. Darkness, a total dungeon even electric lights are obliterated. Lack of oxygen one is not aware of it but the fright and flight hormones are racing. There is an intense heat and last fear of the unknown.
It is at this point most prayers are quickly recited.
